Two Fatal 18-Wheeler Accidents on Texas Roads in Two Days

Between May 5 and May 6, 2021, there were two fatal 18-wheeler accidents on Texas roads. On May 5, 2021, one person was killed in an accident between an 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle in Houston, Texas. The accident blocked eastbound lanes of I-10 at the Freeport exit. Few details are currently available as authorities investigate the cause of the accident.

On May 6, 2021, one person died in an accident between two 18-wheeler tractor trailers and a one-ton flatbed work truck in East Texas. The accident shut down US Highway 79 in Panola County. The sheriff’s office is investigating and there are no further details at this time.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4,951 people were killed in crashes involving large trucks in 2018. Over 70 percent of the people killed in large-truck crashes were occupants of other vehicles, and 77 percent of fatal crashes involving large trucks occurred on weekdays during daytime hours.  Unfortunately, in 2018 Texas had the highest number of fatal crashes involving large trucks, with 658.
