On May 15, 2021, an offshore worker tragically died in an accident on an oil and gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident occurred on Fieldwood Energy’s Eugene Island 158 #14 offshore facility off the coast of Louisiana. According to a statement released by Fieldwood Energy, the accident involved a contractor who was working on “a non-emergency casing pressure test on a shut-in well.” The statement further provides that “no other personnel were injured and the shut-in well remains secure and poses no threat of environmental harm.” At least one source reports that the contractor worked for Island Operating, an oil and gas service company.
